  • Who we are
    • Overview
An overview of Faith & the Common Good: As peoples of differing faiths and cultures, we affirm common values of justice, peace, participation, human rights, ecological inter-relationship, and compassion as cornerstones of a healthy society.
    • Values
As peoples of differing faiths and cultures who call Canada home, we affirm common values of justice, peace, participation, human rights, ecological inter-relationship, and compassion as cornerstones of a healthy society. At the same time, we unite to resist exploitation, violence, greed, and all abuses that hinder personal, social, and ecological well-being.
    • History
People of faith in Canada have a long history of engaging society as a whole in the search for the common good. The Faith & the Common Good initiative sees itself as growing out of this context and experience.
    • Support us
A number of individuals have assisted the project by offering their organising talents, their research skills, and their financial contributions. As with any initiative, it is as strong as its many parts. Your interest makes a big difference in the success of this project at the local, national and international levels.

  • Sacred Balance
    • Overview
Renewing the Sacred Balance is about rekindling our relationship with habitat Earth and with one another. It’s about living life with sacred awareness and an ethic of eco-sustainability.
      • Background
We at Faith & the Common Good recognize that all major faith groups give central credence to the divine importance of humans living respectfully and harmoniously with the natural world, to the whole cosmos. As faith communities, we also know that we have been part of the ecological problem through our inaction, silence, or misguided religious views of how humans should relate to the natural world.
    • Spirituality
Renewing the Sacred Balance means living life with sacred awareness and an ethic of eco-sustainability Often, it seems, we are too busy to enjoy the gift of each other and the simple abundance of the Earth. Here are some suggestions to begin to rekindle our sacred relationships with the Earth & each other.
    • Buildings
To live out the Renewal the Sacred Balance means practising ecological values in our everyday lives. We can begin by changing the way we shop, reducing our energy use, eliminating toxic chemicals from our homes and gardens, and making conscious choices about the food we eat.
    • Communities
Renewing the Sacred Balance means reaching out and connecting with others involved in creating healthier local communities. It also means focusing on transportation, the largest source of greenhouse gas emissions in Canada – accounting for a quarter of all emissions. What would happen if some of the resources currently devoted to maintaining roads and vehicles could be spent on making our communities better places to live?
    • Globally
Renewing the Sacred Balance also requires coordinated action both across Canada and around the globe. Here you will find some sample initiatives that enable you to join with others working to protect & heal our precious planet.
